Ma'alaea Dining Guide

The Hawaiian Language

Hawaii State Flag

So that you will not starve while on vacation on Maui, Karen and I have compiled a list of Ma’alaea restaurants and eateries, all located within a short walking distance from your “little grass shack”. You can dine in casual elegance at a 5 star restaurant; perhaps celebrating a birthday or anniversary in style, or more casually at one of the cafés and bistros available to you just up the street. Wherever you decide to dine, Ma’alaea restaurants offer you a wide variety of delicious cuisines for every pallet and pocketbook.

Aloha Deli – 808 249-2708 (Open 6am – 5pm daily)

This is a little breakfast and lunch nook located in the Harbor Shops of Ma’alaea, towards the harbor side. If you are looking to get a quick soda or deli sandwich while shopping, then this is the perfect place. The menu is typical deli fare including: wraps, smoothies, soups, fresh juice drinks, hoagies, espresso beverages, brewed coffee and local side dishes. They are famous for their “Chicago Style” hot dogs and voted number six Chicago style hot dog, outside of Chicago!!! If you are an early riser out for a morning stroll, visit Aloha Deli for that morning cup of coffee, fresh Maui produce or egg sandwich and enjoy the sunrise over Haleakala.

Beach Bums Bar & Grill - (808) 243-2286

Located on the lower level in the Harbor Shops at Ma’alaea, Beach Bums offers casual dining with a beautiful view of Ma’alaea Bay. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring island flavored libations, salads, pastas, meat and fresh fish dishes, Beach Bums is great for a “Come as you are” snack or drink after a harbor cruise or water excursion and your wallet will not suffer. Reservations are not necessary.

Buzz’ Wharf Restaurant ( http://www.buzzswharf.com ) (808) 875-8471

A family owned Maui landmark since 1967, serving American cuisine with an island flavor. Their “House Specialties” include: Prawns Tahitian, Baked Papaya and Teriyaki steak, to name a few. They serve Certified Angus Beef ™ and tasty prawns which are farm raised and imported from New Caledonia. This is one of Karen’s and my favorite restaurants, you will definitely want to sample their fresh seafood and prawn dishes!!! Reservations are suggested and be sure to print their money saving dining coupon before leaving for Maui.

 Carl’s Jr. (808) 249-0787

While technically a restaurant, Carl’s Jr. is located inside the 76 gas station, as you enter Ma’alaea. It offers the usual fast food burgers, filet-o-fish sandwiches, fries, milk shakes, similar to McDonalds and Burger King. The gas station is a mini 7-11 convenience store, with a small assortment of staples to keep you going until you get a chance to grocery shop back in Kahului.

Juca Mexican Restaurant – (808) 244-5993

Located in the Harbor Shops at Ma’alaea (in the middle), you can treat your cravings for authentic Mexican cuisine, even while vacationing on Maui! Dine in or take out, they have tasty, reasonably priced, Latin American food. Open of lunch and Dinner - be sure to ask about their daily specials.

Ma’alaea Grill (http://www.cafeoleirestaurants.com/thegrill) ( 808) 243-2206

This relaxing restaurant has one of best views of Ma’alaea Bay and the Pacific Ocean. There is also a spacious lanai on which you can casually dine and watch the boats down in the harbor or the distant lights on Haleakala reflect on the water as the sun goes down. Serving American and regional Hawaiian cuisine, you will enjoy Asian salads, fresh fish entries served multiple ways (Be sure to try their signature Macadamia nut roasted Ono), as well as beef, pasta and chicken selections to tempt your pallet. Ma’alaea Grill offers wonderful food without hurting your pocketbook. Open for lunch and Dinner - Reservations suggested - Live music after 8:00 pm

Seascape Restaurant – (808) 270-7043

The Seascape Restaurant is located adjacent to the Maui Ocean Center, Maui's aquarium in Ma’alaea. Open daily from 11:00 to 3:30, it is the perfect place for lunch if you do not feel like cooking or making anything at your condo, and it has the second best view of Ma’alaea Bay and Haleakala. (Your condo has the best!)

You can eat lunch at Seascape whether you are going to the aquarium or not.  The main entrance is inside the aquarium, but there is a back entrance to the right of the aquarium ticket box entrance, if you just want to go to the restaurant without paying for aquarium admission.

Seascape has a large variety of salads and sandwiches, plus a few local island entrees.  It's also a good place to eat lunch during your visit to the Maui Ocean Center, where you can purchase a week long visitor’s pass and it is a great family attraction for young and old.

Tradewinds Deli - (808) 242-9161

You will find Tradewinds Deli at the end (or beginning - depending how you look at it) of your street, on the ground floor of the Ma’alaea Mermaid condo building, it is within easy walking distance from your condo. The perfect place to pick up fresh local produce, deli meats, jumbo hot dogs and sandwiches for lunches on your lanai or your picnic drive to Hana. This is a mini neighborhood convenience store, just down the street. Open M-F, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sa, 10 a.m -7 p.m.; Su, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m

Waterfront Restaurant (http://www.waterfrontrestaurant.net) (808) 244-9028

Located in the Milowai condo, just up the street and within easy walking distance, the Ma’alaea Waterfront Restaurant is one of Maui’s top rated and award winning dining spots. Whether you choose to dine inside or on the lanai, you will have a commanding view of the harbor and Ma’alaea Bay, at this family owned and operated, 5 star restaurant, with one of Maui’s best wine lists. You will dine on the freshest locally grown greens as well as seafood taken from the harbor boats as they docked that day. Their USDA prime, aged cuts of meat are flown in from the “ Big Island’s” Parker Ranch. Be sure to take advantage of their “early bird” special seating time, which offers you a buy one entrée and get the one at ½ price and save room for their Macadamia Nut Cream Pie… So “Ono” (Hawaiian for good). If you drive to dinner, parking is limited to designated spaces only or along the street. Please do not park in resident spots. You may want to consider walking from your condo, it is a great way to work off some of the homemade cheesecake calories after dinner!
